One suspect arrested over robbery of Badalona mayor’s 89-year-old mother
Xavier García Albiol’s 89-year-old mother was robbed in Badalona, Spain, a few weeks ago as she returned from withdrawing cash at an ATM.
The two suspects allegedly used a distraction known as the “stain method”: one drew her attention to a mark on her clothing while the other stole from her.
She walks with a cane, and no physical violence was reported in the incident.
Albiol thanked Catalonia’s Mossos d'Esquadra police and called for tougher laws, including allowing foreign offenders to be expelled from Spain.
Accounts differ on how many suspects have been arrested: police say one was detained, while other accounts say both were.
The police investigation remains open as officers look for the second suspect, according to police information.
