Search stood down for missing 82-year-old after ferry journey to Arran

Jim Wither, 82, from Johnstone is missing after he may have entered the water from a CalMac ferry.

Police say he may have boarded the ferry from Ardrossan to Arran on Sunday.

The incident was reported east of Arran, and a search was launched along the island’s eastern coast.

Coastguard helicopters and an aircraft, rescue teams and RNLI lifeboats took part, but no one was found.

The Coastguard search was stood down early Monday, pending any new information.

Police inquiries remain ongoing, and the CalMac crew is assisting them and the Coastguard.

Some ferry services from Ardrossan to Brodick were cancelled on Monday morning.
