New Spanish Congress to inherit 14 pending proposals
After Spain’s parliament was dissolved, most bills being considered there stopped moving forward.
The next Congress will inherit 14 pending proposals after the November 29 election: two regional statute reforms, five proposals from regional parliaments and seven citizen-led initiatives.
The regional proposals concern the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, the Valencian Community and Asturias, and cover issues including airport management, child protection and support for people with ELA.
The two statute reforms are from Castilla-La Mancha and La Rioja; one would increase the number of regional lawmakers, while the other has not yet been debated in Congress.
The citizen initiatives include proposals on school bullying, youth suicide prevention, transparency, housing and health care.
These proposals survive because they came from outside Congress, unlike initiatives authored by the chamber itself.
The incoming Congress will need to decide whether and how to continue their legislative processing.
The Congress formed after Spain’s 29 November elections is set to inherit 14 pending proposals.
