Mexican lawmaker denies claims of payments from INE control office staff

Mexican lawmaker Sergio Gutiérrez Luna denied allegations that workers at the National Electoral Institute’s internal control office were charged a share of their pay.

He said the claims were “totally false” and denied having personal ties to the office’s comptroller, Víctor Hugo Carvente, or people working there on his behalf.

The alleged payments, described as charges linked to job positions, have not been established in the information provided.

Gutiérrez Luna is a Morena party member and vice-president of Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies.

He called the accusations an opposition campaign and said other claims had also falsely linked him to electoral matters.

He said the comptroller should explain the allegations if the payments are real, and that those involved should file complaints.
