Anak Krakatau erupts seven times as alert status remains in place
Anak Krakatau erupted seven times on October 31 in the Sunda Strait, off Indonesia’s Lampung province.
The volcano’s ash columns were not observed, and authorities said eruptions were still occurring when they issued their update.
Its status remains Alert Level III, known locally as Siaga.
Authorities have barred people from entering within five kilometres of the eruption centre and within one kilometre of two new islands near the volcano.
They warned of hazards including flying hot rocks, heavy ash, lava flows and further eruptions.
Officials urged coastal residents in Banten and Lampung to stay calm and said they should not believe claims that the eruptions will cause a tsunami.
People are advised to follow local disaster agency guidance as monitoring continues.
