India and UK urged to expand trade, with goal of doubling it by 2030
India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal says British businesses have room to increase exports to India.
He named pharmaceuticals, petroleum products, electronics, cars and Scotch whisky as areas with potential.
Goyal spoke at an India-UK business meeting in New Delhi.
The two countries aim to double bilateral trade by 2030, a target he said should lead to wider economic cooperation.
Their trade agreement gives most Indian exports zero-duty access to the UK and opens opportunities for British exporters and service providers.
Goyal also pointed to possible cooperation in infrastructure, clean energy and technology, drawing on strengths he said the countries share in complementary ways.
He said governments could strengthen frameworks and mutual recognition arrangements to support investment, but gave no specific next steps or timeline for doing so.
