Lib Dem treasury spokesman quits amid reports of challenge to Ed Davey

Charlie Maynard has left his role as the Liberal Democrats’ Treasury spokesman.

Reports say he asked MPs to support a no-confidence vote in party leader Ed Davey.

Several senior Liberal Democrats have said they back Davey and criticised the move.

The dispute comes as the party has made little progress in opinion polls since winning 72 seats in 2024.
