Brazilian court accepts Kitchens restructuring request over R$300 million in debts
A São Paulo court accepted a restructuring request from luxury furniture group Kitchens, which makes custom furniture in Brazil.
The group declared R$299.9 million in debts covered by the process, and the judge found a R$49.4 million discrepancy in the four companies’ accounts.
The judge said unclear money transfers between the companies made it difficult to determine who owed what, but the decision did not accuse the group of fraud.
Kitchens has faced financial problems that delayed customer orders, and some customers have sought contract cancellations and refunds through the courts.
The court gave the companies 15 days to explain the accounting differences and 60 days to submit one recovery plan.
It also paused relevant debt collection and lawsuits for 180 days and appointed an administrator to monitor the group.
The restructuring gives Kitchens time to work on a recovery plan, while customers await delayed orders and refunds.

Judge Ralpho Waldo de Barros Monteiro Filho identified a R$49.4 million discrepancy in the accounts of four companies.
The court said the companies’ financial flows made it difficult to establish which company owed money to whom, and treated them as a single debtor.
