DR Congo seeks Russian investment and support for peace in the east

DR Congo President Felix Tshisekedi met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to discuss cooperation between their countries.

Tshisekedi said the DR Congo wants to diversify its economy and attract Russian investment.

He identified energy, processing natural resources, agriculture and digital technology as priority areas.

But he said economic projects need peace in eastern DR Congo, where fighting continues.

He asked Russia to help bring peace, saying efforts in Washington and Doha had not produced tangible results.

Tshisekedi also hopes Russia will support extending the UN peacekeeping mission, whose mandate expires at the end of the year.

Putin said trade ties were growing and pointed to a new joint commission and 100 Russian study places for Congolese students.
