245 marijuana plants seized at farm in Gavirate

Financial police found 245 marijuana plants at a farm in Gavirate, in northern Italy’s Varese province.

The plants were grown in pots and had flowers ready for cutting and processing.

The farm was officially registered to grow aromatic and medicinal plants, and investigators checked whether its seeds and crop met legal requirements.

Laboratory tests found THC levels above the legal limit, making the cultivation potentially criminal under Italy’s rules.

Investigators estimated the plants could have been worth more than 500,000 euros after growing and processing.

Police seized all 245 plants and reported the farm’s two owners, who have not been convicted.

The plants have been placed at the disposal of judicial authorities for further action.
