France recalls two Afiveg and Mynzepli medicine batches over syringe defect
France’s medicines agency has recalled one batch each of Afiveg and Mynzepli because of a manufacturing defect in their syringes.
The medicines are used to treat age-related macular degeneration and other conditions that reduce vision.
The affected batches are Afiveg lot 2461572 and Mynzepli lot 2393229, and the recall also applies in other European countries.
The syringe may loosen or detach during an eye injection, potentially moving the needle and injuring the eye or delivering only part of the dose.
Three related eye side effects have been reported in two European countries, but none has been reported in France.
People with an affected box should return it to a pharmacy without using it; replacement medicines are available.
The agency says people who have already received an injection are not at risk from this defect, and eye doctors should check batch numbers before injections.
France has recalled specific batches of Afiveg and Mynzepli after a manufacturing defect was found in their administration syringes.
The defect could cause the syringe to loosen or detach during an eye injection, potentially moving the needle or delivering an incomplete dose.
Three related cases of eye-related adverse effects have been reported in two European countries, while no reports have been made in France.
Patients with affected boxes should return them to a pharmacy without using them, where they can be exchanged.
