Jakarta Court Rejects Roy Suryo’s Objection in Jokowi Diploma Case
A Jakarta court rejected Roy Suryo’s objection to the charges against him on Monday.
Suryo is on trial over claims that former Indonesian president Joko Widodo’s diploma was fake.
The case will move to witness hearings, with the next session scheduled for October 28.
The judge said Suryo can try to prove his claims during the trial, but that does not cancel the charges.
Prosecutors still must prove the alleged crimes against him.
The court has not decided whether his claims are true or whether he acted in the public interest; those questions will be assessed using evidence in the main trial.

What people are saying
The statement in the indictment that the defendant cannot prove his claim must not be understood as a condition that has been proven and binds the panel of judges, but as a prosecutor's claim that still has to be tested
The public prosecutor remains obliged to prove all elements of the alleged criminal offence
To that end, the hearing will be adjourned until Wednesday, 28 October 2026 at 09:00 for witness examination, and the defendant is ordered to attend on that date
