Man suspected of car theft and damage in Caldaro

A 24-year-old man from Vadena is suspected of a theft near a nature reserve in Caldaro, in northern Italy.

Someone smashed a parked car’s front window and took a wallet containing about 50 euros and personal documents.

A nearby coin box used to sell a German-language newspaper was also damaged in an apparent attempt to take money.

Carabinieri found the man nearby as he rode away by bicycle and seized a hammer they say could have been used in both incidents.

The case involves suspected aggravated theft, attempted theft, damage and carrying tools suitable for breaking in without a valid reason.

The man has been reported to prosecutors but remains at liberty; the hammer will undergo further checks.
