Ship brings record 110,000 tonnes of iron ore to Fujian port

A ship carrying 110,000 tonnes of iron ore docked at Zhangzhou Port in Fujian, China, on October 26.

The Liberia-flagged vessel, named Wisdom, set a record for the largest iron ore cargo carried by one ship to the port area.

Iron ore is a key raw material for steelmaking, and steady imports help steel plants keep production running.

The port says the ore supports steel production as well as construction and manufacturing in the region.

From January through October, the port area had handled 867,500 tonnes of iron ore.

The record-sized ship also tested the port’s deep-water berth and shipping channel, which support large cargo vessels.

Border officers used faster checks and coordinated services to reduce the ship’s waiting time.

Zhangzhou says it will continue improving inspections and cargo clearance to keep mineral supplies moving.
