Man shot dead in Melbourne’s Reservoir, with police probing possible gang link
Elias Serevetas, 55, was shot dead on a footpath in Reservoir, in Melbourne’s north, late Tuesday.
Police are investigating whether the killing was a targeted attack linked to a split in the organisation of illicit tobacco figure Kaz Hamad.
Serevetas was the father of George Serevetas, an associate of Hamad who was charged in 2024 with extorting a business owner; that case was later withdrawn after witnesses withdrew their complaints.
Police have not established which side Serevetas may have been on or why he may have been targeted.
Detectives are also checking whether a burnt-out car found nearby was connected to the shooting.
No arrests have been made, and homicide squad detectives remain at the scene as the investigation continues.
