Qatari LNG carrier hit by unidentified objects in the Gulf

Qatar’s LNG carrier Al Mayeda was hit by unidentified objects while sailing in the Gulf on Friday evening, October 30.

The ship is owned by Qatar Gas Transport Company, known as Nakilat, and carries liquefied natural gas.

No crew members were injured and no environmental damage was reported, and the ship remains operational.

The company is assessing the impact and coordinating with the crew and regional maritime safety authorities.

More than 120 commercial ships have been hit since the Iran war began in February, according to maritime agencies cited in reports on the incident.

Attacks on shipping have increased amid tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for maritime traffic.

The cause of the strike and who was responsible have not been identified, and the assessment is ongoing.
