Winterthur sports shop to close after 70 years without a successor

Intersport Egli will close at the end of March 2027 after 70 years in Winterthur, Switzerland.

The shop, run by Iren Rauber-Egli and her husband, is the last sports shop in Winterthur’s old town.

The owners want more time for themselves, but their search found no one to take over.

The store’s stock, valued at 800,000 Swiss francs, put off potential successors.

Three full-time and two part-time workers will lose their jobs when the shop closes.

A clearance sale begins in December to sell the stock, which includes more than 2,000 pairs of shoes.

The closure is the owners’ decision, not the result of financial trouble, and they hope customers will continue to support local shops.
