Xbox Series X runs four PS5 games through an early emulator

Developer Devran Cosmo Uenal has run four PS5 games on an Xbox Series X using an emulator called PS5X.

The games are GEX Trilogy, Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, Marvel Cosmic Invasion and Quake II, and all work with an Xbox controller.

PS5X is an Xbox adaptation of KytyPS5, an open-source emulator that translates PlayStation game instructions for other hardware.

It currently works only in Xbox Developer Mode, which Microsoft limits to 5GB of game memory.

That restriction rules out most current-generation games, and PS5X has no public download yet.

The four games it can run are also available on other platforms, so there is no evidence yet that it can run a PS5 exclusive.

The project is an early research effort, and its developer says compatibility is limited; no further release plans are given.

Emulators can also face legal risks if they bypass copy protection, as the makers of Nintendo Switch emulator Yuzu shut it down after settling a lawsuit in 2024.
