Djokovic accepts wildcard for Swiss Indoors in Basel

Novak Djokovic has accepted a wildcard to play at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, Switzerland.

The 39-year-old Serbian is a 24-time major champion and won the China Open this month.

He will be aiming for his 103rd career title, which would put him one title away from matching Roger Federer’s total.

The tournament is an ATP 500 event, and play begins on Oct.

26.

Djokovic is also trying to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin, where the top nine players in the ATP Race qualify; he is currently 11th, according to one account.

A strong run could improve his chances of reaching the season-ending event, which he has not played in the past two years.

The Swiss Indoors has said he last played there in 2009, while another account says his previous appearance was in 2011.

I don’t think I’ll be able to train for the next few days. I could barely serve for much of the match; I was in pain.

My shoulder is very bad; we won’t even talk about the third set. I have a lot of pain in my body from the competition this week. I hope I can be ready for Paris.

It was a shock to the body. Competition is different to practice. I may have forced things too much.

I was feeling afraid of the shoulder and what might happen to it. My rhythm on my serve has been completely off.
