Man charged over alleged false Bondi attack compensation claim

A 46-year-old man has been charged over an alleged false compensation claim linked to the Bondi Beach attack.

Police say he falsely stated he was injured in the shooting and later made a fraudulent claim.

The December 14 attack targeted a Hanukkah celebration, killing 15 people and injuring dozens.

NSW offers a $35,000 payment to people hit by gunfire or shrapnel, as well as support for witnesses and families of those injured.

The man was arrested at Parramatta police station and charged with publishing false or misleading material to obtain an advantage and making a false representation that led to a police investigation.

He was granted conditional bail and is due at Parramatta Local Court on November 18; the support scheme accepts applications until December 2027.
