David Ferrer to step down as Spain’s Davis Cup captain after 2026

David Ferrer will leave as Spain’s Davis Cup captain after 2026.

The former world number three said his decision was personal and that he wants to begin a new stage.

He was appointed in 2023, and his contract had been due to run through 2027.

Spain reached the 2025 final but lost to Italy, and has not won a seventh Davis Cup title under Ferrer.

The team’s final tournament with him in charge is the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna, Italy, from November 24 to 29.

Spain faces Austria in the quarter-finals, with Germany or Great Britain possible opponents in the semi-finals.

Italy, the three-time defending champion, could meet Spain in the final.

Ferrer will lead Spain’s last title attempt before stepping down.
