Kaushiki Chakraborty sends legal notice over Vaanmathi song
Kaushiki Chakraborty sent a legal notice to singer Chinmayi Sripaada and songwriter-producer Shabir Sulthan over the Tamil song Vaanmathi.
She alleges that the song uses verses and vocals from her work without permission or credit.
The verses, she says, came from a performance at the Darbar Festival in 2015.
Kaushiki says she tried to resolve the matter through talks, but took legal action after those talks failed.
Chinmayi says she did not know about the alleged copying until she saw Kaushiki’s social media post and received the notice.
She says she would not knowingly copy another person’s work, and that Shabir told her he would address the matter legally.
The song has been taken down from Shabir’s social media, and no resolution is stated.

What people are saying
It’s a statement that I’m putting out on behalf of all of us, a battle I decided to fight not for myself only, but for protecting the rights of our music and musicians.
As a recording artiste I sang and did my lines in the song and haven't been aware of any of the plagiarised portions in the song until the legal notice / Instagram reel.
I wouldnt copy someone else's work and it is below my own musical integrity and dignity.
