Poochakkal police colleagues hold bangle ceremony for pregnant officer

Colleagues at Poochakkal police station held a bangle ceremony for Aswathy, a seven-months-pregnant civil police officer in Kerala.

The traditional Valakappu ceremony is held for pregnant women, and her coworkers gave her bangles, sweets and new clothes.

The gathering also marked her transfer to Cherthala police station, where she can avoid the difficult journey to Poochakkal.

Aswathy had worked at Poochakkal for about two years.

She will remain at Cherthala until her maternity leave begins, and return to Poochakkal after her leave.

The ceremony was led by station house officer Lijimol, and video of it spread on social media.

A police spokesperson said such events aim to reduce stress and create a positive workplace.
