Upasana Singh’s CINTAA committee takes charge amid leadership dispute

Upasana Singh’s committee took charge of CINTAA on October 27, after a court ruling she says favoured her faction.

CINTAA represents film and television artists, and its leadership has been contested after executive committee members resigned in August.

Singh’s faction held an election in September, while a rival faction held a separate election on October 20; reports say Padmini Kolhapure won that vote with 604 votes.

The Bombay High Court restrained the rival faction from acting on its election results and issued a notice asking for an explanation over alleged violations of its directions.

Singh says her committee will focus on members’ needs and alleges that fixed deposits worth ₹73 lakh were transferred to another account.

She says the committee wants to recover the money, which she says should support artists’ welfare, including medical needs.

The rival faction’s legal position remains part of the dispute, and Kolhapure and Poonam Dhillon have been asked to explain the matter on November 18.
