Subhash Ghai says actors today put money ahead of film craft

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai says actors today put money ahead of their craft.

He compared current industry priorities with his own career directing hit Hindi films such as Hero, Khalnayak and Taal.

Ghai says many stars in his films accepted only 40% of their usual fees because they cared about the story, director and character.

He says actors now have other income streams, while managers and public-relations teams can shape their careers.

He argues that celebrity attention can fade after three or four years, as new stars take their place.

Ghai says Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn have stayed relevant through dedication to acting.

He expects younger actors to understand the value of their craft over time.
