Ellen DeGeneres Show producer Matt Wright died of cardiopulmonary arrest

Producer Matt Wright died at 52 on October 30 while working remotely in Los Angeles.

His death certificate lists cardiopulmonary arrest as the cause of death, with hypertension as an underlying cause and obstructive sleep apnea and Class II obesity as contributing factors.

Wright worked on The Ellen DeGeneres Show from 2006 to 2022 and appeared in recurring humorous segments.

DeGeneres posted a tribute on November 2, describing him as smart, kind and funny.

A fundraiser was set up to help his husband, Justin, and family cover funeral and memorial costs after both Wright and Justin had been laid off that summer.

The fundraiser’s $50,000 goal was surpassed, reaching $98,000, while DeGeneres’ $5,000 donation drew online criticism from some people who said she could have given more.
