Zurich police file complaint against SVP politician over Facebook remarks
Zurich city police filed a criminal complaint against SVP politician Christoph Marty over comments he made about the force.
The comments followed riots during the police breakup of an illegal party at Hardplatz on the night of October 11.
Police said officers were attacked with fireworks, stones and bottles; one officer was injured and several police vehicles were badly damaged.
Marty criticized police on Facebook for making no arrests and said the force was ineffective because most officers were women and gay people, using a derogatory term for gay people.
Prosecutors are reviewing several complaints against him, including the police complaint over possible discrimination and incitement to hatred.
Marty says he did nothing wrong and stands by his post, while the SVP group on Zurich’s city council has distanced itself from him.
The prosecutors’ review is the next stated step; no outcome has been announced.
