Matte-screen tablets aim to cut glare and make reading feel more like paper

Tablet makers are increasingly offering matte screens that reduce glare from bright lights and windows.

The screens scatter reflected light, which can make reading easier, and some have a texture that feels more natural when writing with a digital pen.

Amazon will put its Alexa Tablet 12 Pro Nanomatte on sale next week for 560 euros, with support for a keyboard and pen and a reading mode.

Huawei's MatePad Pro 12, which is already on sale for 1,299 euros, pairs a matte surface with an OLED screen.

TCL's NXTPaper 11 Plus starts at 225 euros, while Lenovo's Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 Matte Edition starts at 499 euros.

These models aim to combine paper-like reading with tablet functions, including colour video and Android apps on the TCL device.

Amazon's tablet is due on sale next week; the other models are already available, according to the information provided.
