Lions prepare to face Edinburgh as they mourn Hyron Andrews

The Johannesburg Lions will face Edinburgh in Scotland one week after their teammate Hyron Andrews died.

Andrews, a 31-year-old South African lock, was found at the team hotel on the Île de Ré in France before a match against La Rochelle.

An autopsy found a tear in his aorta, likely linked to an aortic aneurysm, and said it occurred naturally.

The Lions chose to play La Rochelle the day after his death, losing 31-14 in a match that included a tribute to Andrews.

They have trained just once this week, while receiving psychological support and giving teammates space to grieve in different ways.

The Edinburgh match is another step in their grieving process, as well as a difficult test against the current United Rugby Championship leaders.

Prop Boan Venter, who spent six years at Edinburgh, could help the Lions prepare with his knowledge of the team and venue.

The team is due to continue its Scottish trip with a match in Glasgow next week.
