Brighton thrash Crystal Palace 5-0 in south-coast derby

Brighton beat Crystal Palace 5-0 in a Premier League derby at Brighton’s Amex Stadium.

Diego Gomez scored from just inside the halfway line, while Jaydee Canvot scored an own goal and Yasin Ayari added another as Brighton struck three times in the opening 10 minutes.

Charalampos Kostoulas and Jack Hinshelwood scored after the break to complete the win.

The result gave Brighton four straight league wins and its first victory over Palace under head coach Fabian Hurzeler.

Brighton moved to 16 points from seven games and temporarily climbed to second place, five points behind Manchester City, pending Arsenal’s match against Nottingham Forest.

Crystal Palace remained on seven points in 14th place.

The match was Brighton’s first win over Palace in five attempts under Hurzeler, while Palace had won on its previous two visits to the Amex.
