Skydance takes control of Warner Bros. and Paramount
David Ellison’s Skydance has completed its deal to acquire Warner Bros.
Discovery and combine it with Paramount.
The merged company will be called Skydance, though Paramount, Warner Bros.
and HBO are expected to remain familiar brands for now.
Ellison will run the combined company.
Its owners are likely to bring Paramount’s and HBO’s streaming services together eventually, but not immediately.
The company also includes a cable TV business, which limits what it can do with its brands and services in the near term.
Previous efforts by AOL, AT&T and Discovery to own Warner Bros.
did not succeed, making the new company’s prospects a key question.
Skydance’s deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery officially closed on the day The Verge’s interview was recorded.
The resulting company will be called Skydance, according to The Verge article.
Skydance is owned by David Ellison, the son of Oracle CEO Larry Ellison.
The companies are expected to combine their businesses, with a possible merger of Paramount and HBO streaming services in the future.
The Verge article says the combined operation will be run by David Ellison.
