Amanda Serrano to end boxing career with January fight in Puerto Rico

Amanda Serrano says her January 9 bout will be her final fight as a professional boxer.

The seven-division world champion will face Australia's Skye Falzon at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan.

Serrano will defend her WBA and WBO featherweight titles over 12 three-minute rounds.

The format reflects Serrano's push for women’s championship fights to use the same round length as men’s.

She will also have one last chance to break the women’s knockout record; she has 32 knockouts, one short of the record cited in the reports.

Serrano has a 50-4-1 professional record and is the only Puerto Rican boxer, male or female, to become an undisputed world champion.

Her final fight brings a career that helped raise the profile of women’s boxing back home, where she says she wants to give fans a memorable last night.

A news conference to officially announce the fight is scheduled for Tuesday in San Juan.
