Hitachi Energy plans $77 million Brazilian plant, raising investment plan to $350 million

Hitachi Energy will invest $77 million in a new plant in Pindamonhangaba, in São Paulo state, to make components for power transformers.

The project raises the company’s planned investment in Brazil to $350 million.

The plant will make parts including bushings and tap changers, and some investment will also expand electrical insulation materials production in Guarulhos.

Rising electricity demand is driving the expansion, as economies electrify and data centers and artificial intelligence use more power.

The components will supply Hitachi Energy’s own factories in Brazil and abroad, while the company also aims to serve export markets including North America and the Middle East.

The plant is expected to open in late 2028, about a year after a new transformer factory planned for Pindamonhangaba, and is expected to create 120 direct jobs.
