Heavy rain threatens southern France and Corsica through Friday
A slow-moving weather system is bringing heavy rain to southern France through Friday.
The heaviest falls are expected around the Gulf of Lion, where some areas could receive up to 200 millimeters.
Eastern Corsica could also get more than 100 millimeters, with the worst conditions expected Thursday.
Rainfall is expected to peak on Wednesday and Thursday, then ease as the rain moves away from the Languedoc on Friday.
The ground is already saturated after repeated rain since late September, so even less exceptional downpours could cause local flooding.
Another period of rain may arrive from Sunday through the middle of next week.
