Doosan Enerbility to build first commercial reactor module for NuScale

South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility will make a reactor module for NuScale Power, a US company developing small modular reactors.

The contract covers the first upper reactor pressure vessel module, a major component that must withstand high temperatures and pressure.

Doosan will supply materials and manufacture the module, expanding work that began with a materials deal in 2023 and cooperation dating to 2019.

Small modular reactors are designed to have major equipment made in modules and assembled at the site, unlike conventional large nuclear plants.

NuScale’s design was the first small modular reactor design approved by the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The deal moves the project into commercial manufacturing, though the sources do not give a delivery date or project schedule.

Doosan says it will seek further manufacturing work as NuScale’s projects progress.
