Felix Neureuther rests as back condition puts surgery on hold

Felix Neureuther missed a charity event in Germany's Black Forest because of back problems.

The 42-year-old former ski racer has a spinal condition that his father, Christian Neureuther, said had led doctors to consider surgery.

He is trying treatment without surgery for now, rather than undergoing an operation.

He has been told to rest and avoid golf, which he enjoys as a sport.

The event raised €478,063 for charities despite his absence, and his sister Ameli contributed an artwork for auction.

His priority is to stabilize his back so he can return to his work as a winter-sports TV expert and to projects with his foundation.
