Fontaines D.C. to ban AI use in future music video contracts
Irish rock band Fontaines D.C. plans to ban AI in future music video contracts after a dispute over its “Marianne” video.
The video drew criticism from fans after its credits initially listed AI artists.
Frontman Grian Chatten said the band learned of the AI use only after the video was released.
He said the main effects were made with visual effects and prosthetics by a team of more than 110 people, but someone used AI in the production process.
The band says no one told its members, label or management about that use.
Chatten said the experience prompted the band to put an AI ban in its contracts, amid his concerns that AI threatens human creativity.
The band is continuing to promote its new album, and a North American, European and Australian tour, with some Japan dates, is planned for next year.
