Biesenthal crash driver had no alcohol in his blood, investigators say

A crash near Biesenthal killed four young people on October 7.

Police say a 61-year-old car driver was trying to pass several vehicles on the L200 when he collided with mopeds coming the other way.

The victims were aged 14 to 19, and another moped rider escaped without injury.

A forensic test found the driver had no alcohol in his blood at the time of the crash.

Tests for medication and drugs are not yet available, and investigators are still examining what happened.

The driver’s licence was withdrawn on October 26, while investigators consider possible charges including negligent homicide or endangering road traffic.

They are awaiting autopsy and crash-analysis results and continue to question witnesses before deciding what the evidence shows.
