Radio Vinci Park turns a Guanajuato car park into a performance space

Radio Vinci Park transformed an underground car park in Guanajuato into a performance space during the closing weekend of the International Cervantino Festival.

Visual artist Théo Mercier and choreographer and performer François Chaignaud created the work together.

Chaignaud danced, sang and fought alongside a motorcycle as performers played mechanics and a masked motorcyclist faced a baroque creature in high heels.

Harpsichordist Marie-Pierre Brébant played live, setting the delicate sound of an old instrument against the motorcycle’s engine and the work’s physical intensity.

The free event drew a varied crowd, including people who came without knowing the artists or the piece.

The unusual setting and mix of movement, engines and baroque music first confused some spectators, then drew them in.

At the end, the audience applauded, and young attendees approached Chaignaud to ask about his performance.
