Italian minibasket educator Maurizio Cremonini dies aged 70

Maurizio Cremonini died aged 70 after a heart attack during the night between Sunday and Monday.

He was from Brescia and lived in Flero, in northern Italy.

He spent more than 30 years training minibasket coaches and developing the sport for the Italian Basketball Federation.

Minibasket introduces basketball to young children, and Cremonini saw it as a way to help them grow, not just learn skills.

His work also reached beyond Italy through educational projects with FIBA, the sport’s international governing body.

The federation and basketball community are mourning his death, and he leaves his wife and two sons.

His teaching is expected to continue through the instructors and young players he influenced.
