Ibero-American business leaders call for stable rules to protect investment
At a business forum in Madrid, Ibero-American business leaders called for predictable rules to help companies invest with confidence.
The forum was held alongside the 30th Ibero-American Summit of heads of state.
Leaders said political changes should not lead to abrupt shifts in rules affecting businesses, because uncertainty can delay investment or make projects more expensive to finance.
They pointed to global trade tensions, conflicts and disrupted supply chains as pressures on companies deciding where to invest and find suppliers.
Ibero-America could help diversify supply chains, including for Europe, because of the region’s natural resources, location and historic links with Europe.
The leaders also called for practical cooperation between governments and businesses and for support for investment and job creation to continue beyond election cycles.
Ibero-American business groups called for legal certainty and stable regulations to protect investment.
They said policies affecting businesses should continue across changes of government and not shift with political ideology.
The call came at the 16th Ibero-American Business Meeting in Madrid, held alongside the 30th Ibero-American Summit of heads of state.
CEOE president Antonio Garamendi said predictable rules help companies maintain long-term investment commitments.
Ibero-American secretary-general Andrés Allamand said political instability and legal uncertainty inhibit investment.
