Man Accused of Posing as 49ers Player in $1.3 Million Fraud

Federal prosecutors say Daejon Love posed as a San Francisco 49ers player to pursue women and promote fraudulent investments.

Investigators say Love and an alleged accomplice received about $1.3 million from at least 26 women.

Love's social media showed 49ers clothing, football-related videos and an expensive lifestyle, but the team and the NFL said he had never worked for either.

Domonique DuBose met him on Hinge and became suspicious, checking his claimed football history and using her work phone number instead of her personal one.

DuBose says she avoided losing money, while the case highlights how convincing online profiles can be used to gain trust.

Love pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and was ordered detained as a flight risk; the case will proceed in court.
