Hiker rescued after 30-metre fall near Oberaudorf

A 25-year-old woman from Munich fell about 30 metres while hiking near Oberaudorf in Bavaria on Friday, October 16.

She had been walking alone towards Buchau when, for an undetermined reason, she left the trail near the Fritzenwand.

She was seriously injured and hidden from view behind a fallen tree, away from the path.

A 21-year-old hiker nearby heard falling stones and a groan, followed the sounds, gave first aid and called emergency services.

Mountain rescuers and two helicopters helped evacuate her to hospital after rescuers carried her to a point where a helicopter could reach her by winch.

The incident involved 15 members of the Oberaudorf mountain rescue service and three emergency doctors.

Police are investigating how she came off the trail.
