Kim Min-seok urges Gyeonggi governor to focus on her role

Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok urged Gyeonggi Governor Choo Mi-ae to focus on her official role after she criticized a candidate to lead South Korea’s Serious Crimes Investigation Agency.

Choo had called the candidate a “pro-Yoon prosecutor” during a parliamentary audit of the provincial government.

Kim said the candidate’s confirmation hearing was the proper place to examine the issue.

Separately, Kim said a party inquiry had found evidence of substantial group membership by Shincheonji followers in the party.

He also said there were testimonies about organized involvement in party primary contests, but the findings had not yet been debated or verified.

Kim said a media claim that at least 30,000 Shincheonji followers had joined was not accurate.

The party will discuss verification and possible next steps, including whether to make the findings public or request an investigation.
