Florence buys three speed cameras to replace non-compliant devices

Florence has ordered three new speed cameras for €121,817 to replace older devices.

The city bought AVX 106SE cameras after five older Model 105 units were taken out of use because they did not meet updated national approval rules.

The new cameras will be placed at three of Florence’s 21 authorized locations, not at new sites.

The city has not said which locations will receive them.

It previously said all 21 locations would remain active by rotating compliant cameras among them.

Speeding cameras brought in €19.7 million in fines in 2025, while the city recorded nearly €15.9 million in speeding fines in the first eight months of 2026.

The purchase renews the equipment without changing the camera network, and the stated aim of the wider system is to enforce speed limits and improve road safety.
