Zhangzhou Opens Its First Dedicated Short-Drama Studio

A dedicated short-drama studio has opened in Zhangzhou, a city in Fujian province in southeastern China.

The facility has sets for scenes such as homes, cafés, hospitals, courts and banks, as well as costumes, props and production services.

The studio is run by Taiwanese-led He Le Films, which says it wants to connect talent and production across Fujian and Taiwan and help distribute work overseas.

Its chair, Zhuang Hanru, began building her film business in Zhangzhou in 2021.

Her short drama “Mian Mian Ju Dao zhi 101” was described as the Red Fruit platform’s first Taiwan-related short drama, and it received a positive response from viewers.

The company plans to draw on Minnan culture and shared cultural ties in future productions, while local officials hope film and tourism can support each other.

The studio is expected to support more short-drama production and cultural exchange, but no specific upcoming projects or timelines were announced.
