Tamil Nadu TASMAC shops will require digital payment for purchases above ₹1,000
Tamil Nadu’s TASMAC liquor shops will require digital payment for alcohol purchases above ₹1,000 from November 1.
The rule applies across the state’s 4,048 retail shops.
Customers can pay using UPI or a bank-linked card terminal, and shops must issue a bill for every sale.
The payment limit drops to ₹500 on January 1, 2027.
TASMAC says cash handling creates security and accounting problems for staff, while digital payments could reduce sales above the official retail price and make transactions more transparent.
Shop staff cannot collect sales money through their personal accounts.
District managers will monitor the system and submit regular sales information.
