Chungju councilors’ pay to rise 3.5% next year

Chungju City Council members will receive higher pay next year in Chungju, a city in South Korea’s North Chungcheong Province.

A review committee decided to raise their annual allowance by 3.5%, matching the rise in public servants’ salaries.

Adding the legally set activity allowance of 18 million won brings their total pay to about 50.07 million won.

That is an increase of about 1.08 million won compared with this year.

The committee said it considered public feedback, population, the city’s financial independence and council members’ work.

The council plans to amend its payment rules to put the committee’s decision into effect.

From 2028, the annual allowance is set to rise for three years in line with increases in public servants’ salaries.
