South Korean brokerages report lower profits than in the second quarter

South Korean brokerages reported lower profits than in the second quarter of 2026, as a sharp stock market decline reduced trading activity.

Kiwoom Securities, which has a strong business serving individual investors, reported operating profit of 406.1 billion won, down 48.5% from the previous quarter.

Its stock commission revenue fell about 46%, to 244.7 billion won, as market trading value declined.

Net profit was down 65% from the second quarter and 26% from a year earlier.

NH Investment & Securities and KB Securities also had lower operating profits than in the second quarter, although each reported higher operating profit than a year earlier.

The results show how a market downturn can hit brokerages’ trading income, and the sources give no details on what happens next.
