Ambulance driver goes on trial over deaths of two teenagers in Lyon

In Lyon, two teenagers were killed when an ambulance hit their scooter on 22 August 2022.

Iris Pichène was 15 and Warren Bistoquet was 17, and they were riding together on the Quai Maréchal-Joffre.

They were using a bus lane that was also open to ambulances, taxis and some other ways of travelling.

The ambulance driver is now on trial at a criminal court in Lyon, four years after the collision.

He has said he was on an urgent mission for France’s emergency medical service, with a patient to collect and take to hospital.

He says he had activated the siren and lights and that the scooter moved to the left, leaving him unable to avoid the crash.

The trial is examining the driver’s conduct, but the available information does not say when a verdict is expected.
